Earth Data Login
To get data from NASA Earth Data, you will need to register and get a username and password. Register here: https://urs.earthdata.nasa.gov/
Jupyter Hub
If you want to follow along with our tutorials during the workshop on our workshop Jupyter Hub https://workshop.nmfs-openscapes.2i2c.cloud/ then
- If you are NOAA, click here (NOAA only) for instructions and to get the password (NOAA access only)
- If you are not-NOAA, we will give the password to the workshop Jupyter Hub out at the start of the workshop.
Do I need to use the Jupyter Hub? No. You can run the tutorials in Colab, Binder, Codespaces, another Jupyter Hub or download and run on your own computer. Or you can just listen!
Getting the tutorials
Once in the Jupyter Hub, you can open a terminal with File > New > Terminal. Then type this on the command line:
cd ~
git clone https://github.com/nmfs-opensci/EDMW-2H-tutorials-2025
Alternatively, go to a tutorial in https://nmfs-opensci.github.io/EDMW-EarthData-Workshop-2025/ and there are buttons to open the tutorial in different places.
We will be using a JupyterHub for the workshop but you can run the tutorials in Colab, Binder or on your own computer.
Jupyter Hub setup
- https://workshop.nmfs-openscapes.2i2c.cloud/
- Click here for instructions and to get the password (NOAA access only)
- Once you are in, Click Start Server.
Earthdata Login account
You will need this to get the PACE data and to get NASA Earth Data in general.
- Create an Earthdata Login account (if you don’t already have one) at https://urs.earthdata.nasa.gov
- Write down your username and password; you will need it often.
Running the tutorials
- Navigate to a tutorial in the EDMW workshop
- You will see buttons for opening the tutorial in different ways. Choose the way that works for you.
- If using the Jupyter Hub, click on the “Open in Jupyter Hub” button.
